From Greenland’s cliffs of ice and stone
Our longships faced the world unknown
No map could guide, no stars remain
Only endless sea and rain
The western ocean called our name
Beyond the world no man could claim
The frozen winds became our guide
With fearless hearts and endless pride
For countless days the fog rolled in
No sky above, no world within
The northern storm began to roar
Driving us forevermore
Bjarni drifted far away
Lost beyond the light of day
Then through the mist appeared at last
A silent land, immense and vast
Though fear demanded we turn home
The western sea still called our soul
The gods had shown another shore
One never seen by men before
Beyond the endless sea we sailed
Where even legends once had failed
The northern winds became our guide
With Odin’s ravens at our side
Far beyond the frozen foam
We found another northern home
Where forests reached the morning sky
And destiny would never die
Leif bought Bjarni’s weathered ship
Prepared once more for fate’s long trip
At Newfoundland our feet touched land
A gift no king could ever command
The morning dew on emerald grass
Was sweeter than the finest mead
The men stood silent, full of awe
For nature gave them all they sought
Deep within the ancient trees
Tyrker wandered joyfully
He returned with laughing eyes
Speaking words none recognized
Wild vines hanging through the wood
Nature’s unexpected good
Leif then raised his mighty hand
And named this place forever…
Vinland.
We traded cloth of crimson red
Warm milk for precious furs instead
Two distant worlds beneath one sky
Believed that peace would never die
But thunder came with one loud cry
A mighty bull beneath the sky
The strangers fled in fear and dread
Returning armed instead
Steel replaced the open hand
Blood was spilled upon the sand
Thorvald fell by arrow’s flight
Beneath the cold northern light
Karlsefni still dared to stay
Building homes against the grey
Yet every dawn brought war once more
Until they reached the breaking shore
Beyond the endless sea we sailed
Where courage never truly failed
Though Vinland slipped beyond our hands
Its name still echoes through the lands
Our halls grew quiet once again
Returning through the ice and rain
The dream was lost… the tale remained
Forever sung by northern flames
„We found a world beyond the sea… but only the Saga returned home.“
