Across the frost through endless snow
To Jötunheim the gods would go
Thor concealed beneath a veil
While Loki smiled behind the tale
The halls of Thrym were carved from stone
Where giants ruled upon their throne
The feast was laid with golden light
To bless the long-awaited bride
The tables bent beneath the weight
Of roasted beasts upon each plate
Thor sat down without a word
Then silence swept across the world
One mighty ox was gone at once
Eight salmon vanished in a rush
Every cake prepared with care
Simply disappeared from there
Three great barrels filled with mead
Couldn’t satisfy his need
Every giant watched in awe
Frozen by what they just saw
Raise the horns through Jötunheim
Sing the old forgotten rhyme
The bride beneath the silver veil
Would turn the greatest feast to tale
Laugh, O ravens, through the sky
Even gods can wear disguise
When Mjölnir calls its master’s hand
No giant king can ever stand
King Thrym frowned with puzzled eyes
„This fair bride wins no woman’s prize.
Never have I seen before
Someone eat and drink much more.“
Loki stepped with cunning grace
Never changing in his face
„Eight long days she would not eat
Dreaming only of this feast.“
The giant smiled once more again
Still unaware of Loki’s game
He reached to lift the bridal lace
To kiss his long-awaited maid
Beneath the veil two burning eyes
Like lightning trapped in storm-filled skies
Thrym leapt back in fear and dread
His courage almost left him dead
Loki laughed without a sound
Another lie was quickly found
„Eight long nights she has not slept
Thinking of this wedding feast.“
The giants cheered and drank once more
Never seeing what stood before
Then Mjölnir entered through the hall
The sacred hammer feared by all
They laid it softly on her knees
To bless the wedding faithfully
Thor felt iron once again
The thunder woke inside his veins
The bride stood up… the veil was torn…
The Giant King would mourn till dawn
Raise the horns through Jötunheim
Let the thunder shake all time
For every hall the giants build
Will fall before great Mjölnir’s will
„No feast can hide the God of Thunder.“
